Cosmology

The cosmos of Xindeler is a system of interconnected layers: the material plane where mortals live, the realms of the gods, the planes of pure energy, and the abysses where things dwell that prefer not to be named.

The Material Plane

The physical world where the game takes place. An inhabited planet with continents, oceans, subterranean regions and, somewhere in its past, cities that floated in the sky.

The Two Moons

The night sky of Xindeler has two moons, each with its own significance:

Phocallis — The White Moon

The bright white moon. It governs the official calendar of the world: months, seasons and agricultural cycles are measured by its movement. Almost every civilization in Xindeler organizes time around Phocallis.

Erevos — The Red Moon

The red moon. It has orbited the world since time immemorial and its light stains the horizon crimson on the nights when it is at its highest point.

Erevos is not simply a moon.

What Erevos really is, and why it orbits where it orbits, is known by few in the world. Those who know prefer not to say it aloud.

The Veil — The Arcane Fabric

The Veil is the source of all arcane magic in Xindeler. An invisible fabric of energy that permeates the material plane, created by the Luminaries in the earliest times to arm mortals against threats they could not otherwise face.

Mages learn to perceive the Veil before they can manipulate it. The most powerful can see its patterns directly.

The Divine Gate

After the Great War — the event that ended the Age of Wonders — the Luminaries built the Divine Gate: a barrier that prevents them from descending to the material plane in corporeal form.

The gods can still grant power to their followers, send visions and act indirectly. But they no longer walk among mortals as they once did.

The reason for the Gate's construction, and the exact nature of the Great War, are part of the deep lore of Xindeler.

The Planes

Beyond the material plane lies a vastness of realms:

  • Divine realms — the domains of the Luminaries
  • Elemental planes — sources of pure energy
  • The Void — what exists between the planes, and what lives in it

The complete map of Xindeler's cosmos — its layers, its inhabitants and its rules — is one of the most ambitious projects in the game's design. Fragments are revealed as the world expands.
